What we do
Our organization exists to protect the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of Ugandan migrant workers and their families. We work closely with communities, government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders to prevent abuse, respond to emergencies, and promote safe, legal, and informed labour migration.
Our organization provides comprehensive services designed to protect, support, empower, and advocate for Ugandans who are affected by migration-related challenges, both within Uganda and abroad. We recognize that every individual and family faces unique circumstances, which is why our services are holistic, people-centered, and focused on restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity.
Through collaboration with government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, diplomatic missions, community leaders, and other stakeholders, we work to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive timely assistance and long-term support.
1. Guidance & Counselling
Migration can be one of the most significant decisions a person makes. While it offers opportunities for employment, education, and a better future, it also comes with risks that many people do not fully understand before leaving home. Others return after experiencing trauma, exploitation, or abuse and need emotional support to rebuild their lives.
Our Guidance and Counselling services provide professional, confidential, and compassionate support to individuals and families before departure, during times of crisis, and after returning home.
We also counsel families whose loved ones are working abroad, helping them cope with anxiety, uncertainty, and communication challenges while connecting them to available support systems.
2. Advocacy & Lobbying
Protecting migrant workers requires more than responding to individual cases—it requires addressing the systems and conditions that place people at risk.
Our organization actively advocates for the rights, dignity, safety, and welfare of Ugandans working and living abroad. We engage government institutions, policymakers, labour authorities, recruitment agencies, diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, and international partners to promote stronger protections for migrant workers.
Through dialogue, public campaigns, policy discussions, research findings, and stakeholder engagement, we advocate for fair recruitment practices, ethical employment standards, access to justice, improved labour protections, and timely support for citizens in distress.
3. Empowerment
True protection extends beyond emergency assistance. Individuals need knowledge, confidence, practical skills,
and economic opportunities to build secure and independent futures.
Our Empowerment programmes equip
vulnerable individuals, returning migrants, women, youth, and affected families
with the tools they need to regain control over their lives. Through entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, leadership development, life skills education, livelihood support, mentoring, and community participation, we encourage self-reliance and resilience.
Empowerment helps people overcome
vulnerability, reduce dependence, rebuild confidence, and become active
contributors to their families and communities.
4. Sensitization
Many migration-related problems begin with a lack of accurate information. Unscrupulous recruiters often exploit people’s hopes by providing false promises about jobs, salaries, and living conditions abroad.
Our Sensitization programmes educate communities about safe migration, human trafficking, labour rights, ethical recruitment, legal migration procedures, and available support services.
Through community meetings, schools, churches, universities, media campaigns, radio programmes, social media, workshops, and public dialogues, we raise awareness of the risks associated with irregular migration while promoting informed decision-making.
By increasing public knowledge, we empower communities to identify warning signs, avoid exploitation, and make safer choices before seeking opportunities abroad.
5. Repatriation of Human Remains
The loss of a loved one abroad is one of the most devastating experiences a family can face. Beyond the emotional pain, families often struggle with complex legal procedures, financial costs, and logistical challenges involved in returning the deceased to Uganda.
Our organization supports families by providing guidance throughout the repatriation process and linking them with the appropriate authorities, embassies, funeral service providers, airlines, and relevant government institutions.
We help families understand documentation requirements, coordinate communication among stakeholders, and advocate for timely processing where possible.
Throughout this difficult period, we provide compassionate support while respecting the dignity of the deceased and the wishes of their loved ones.
6. Policy Determination and Determination
Effective migration governance depends on policies that reflect the realities experienced by migrant workers and their families.
Our organization contributes to policy development by participating in consultations, stakeholder forums, technical working groups, and national discussions aimed at improving migration management and worker protection.
We share evidence from our programmes, research findings, field experiences, and survivor testimonies to inform policy reforms that strengthen labour migration systems, improve accountability, and enhance access to protection and justice.
Our goal is to support policies that are practical, inclusive, rights-based, and responsive to the evolving needs of migrant communities.
7. Justice
Every individual deserves access to justice regardless of where they live or work.
Our organization supports individuals whose rights have been violated by connecting them with appropriate legal assistance, government institutions, law enforcement agencies, labour authorities, and other competent bodies.
We advocate for accountability in cases involving exploitation, abuse, trafficking, fraud, violence, discrimination, contract violations, unpaid wages, and other human rights concerns.
While we do not replace the role of the courts or law enforcement agencies, we help survivors understand available legal options, navigate referral pathways, and pursue appropriate remedies through lawful processes.
Our commitment is to ensure that victims are treated with dignity and that their voices are heard.
8. Case Management
Every situation is different, requiring personalized attention and coordinated support.
Our Case Management service ensures that each reported case is carefully documented, assessed, monitored, and followed through until an appropriate outcome is achieved or all reasonable referral options have been exhausted.
We work closely with affected individuals, families, government institutions, embassies, social workers, legal service providers, healthcare professionals, and humanitarian partners to coordinate timely responses.
Our case management approach prioritizes confidentiality, professionalism, accountability, and the best interests of every individual we serve.
9. Link and Networking
No single organization can address every migration challenge alone.
We therefore build strong partnerships with government ministries, diplomatic missions, civil society organizations, legal aid providers, faith-based organizations, healthcare institutions, recruitment regulators, international agencies, community leaders, and development partners.
Through these networks, we connect vulnerable individuals with specialized services and promote coordinated responses that improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Strong partnerships allow us to expand our reach, strengthen protection systems, and ensure that individuals receive comprehensive support.
10. Physical & Mental Rehabilitation
Survivors of exploitation, trafficking, abuse, or prolonged hardship often require both physical recovery and emotional healing.
Our rehabilitation services focus on restoring health, confidence, dignity, and independence through referrals for medical care, counselling, psychosocial support, trauma recovery, family reconciliation, and community reintegration.
We recognize that healing is a gradual process and therefore work alongside professional service providers to support survivors as they rebuild their lives.
Our goal is not only recovery but also long-term resilience and successful reintegration into society.
11. Research
Evidence is essential for designing effective programmes and influencing meaningful policy change.
Our organization conducts research to better understand migration trends, emerging risks, recruitment practices, survivor experiences, service gaps, and the broader social and economic impacts of migration.
The knowledge generated through our research informs programme design, advocacy initiatives, awareness campaigns, and policy recommendations.
By promoting evidence-based decision-making, we contribute to stronger migration governance and improved protection for vulnerable populations.
12. Skills Development
Sustainable reintegration requires opportunities for economic independence and personal growth.
Our Skills Development programmes equip returning migrants, youth, women, and vulnerable individuals with practical, marketable skills that improve their employability and income-generating potential.
Training may include entrepreneurship, financial literacy, vocational skills, digital literacy, business management, communication, leadership, and life skills.
By investing in people’s abilities, we reduce vulnerability, strengthen resilience, and create pathways toward sustainable livelihoods and long-term self-reliance.
